Women's World Cup Final
Germany 2 Brazil 0

Utterly disappointing. Utterly, utterly disappointing. The performance by both teams was just that. The quality of football was poor. Even the ref was horrid.

In the first half, there was a distinct lack of drive from either team. Neither seemed fired up to win it. And both displayed suicidal defending. It was mistake after mistake after mistake after mistake. It was incredible the way they played. Almost showboating, lingering on the ball, willing, almost daring the other team to nick it off them to score. It didn't help that their passing was wayward most of the time.

Brazil, being Brazil tried to dribble their way out of trouble. Everyone knows its a bad idea. Not them apparently. If I were the gaffer, I'd have have given the defence the hairdryer treatment for sure. It was just weird that they were playing the long ball all the time, probably because the team was so static. Off the ball running was almost non-existant. The Germans weren't that good either. It was by sheer luck that they didn't concede. The Brazillians did have a penalty, but it was struck with so little belief, so little desire to score that I'm tempted to say my grandma could have done better. They did create good chances but were helped in no small part by Brazil's marking.

And the ref. Bad calls as usual. Brazil had one clear penalty when it was nil nil. Not given. When the penalty was given, it was supposed to be a sending off as well. Denial of a clear goal scoring opportunity. Nope, yellow will do. Her calls for other fouls weren't good as well.

In the end, it was simply a huge let down.
