Had a couple of beers with a friend of mine today. He's ex-US Marine and so we were talking about Army stuff. Like all guys who've been through it do. And guess what, it's not very different over there.

You get stupid people who mess things up same as they do in Sg. Like people who load the bullets into their magazines the wrong way. Or people who point the claymore at themselves when its clearly stated on that part FRONT TOWARDS ENEMY. And I was still thinking, who'd be stupid enough not to know that? Well there are apparently people dumb enough not to know that even when it's printed clearly. Nice to know that some things are the same.

Anyway, law has been going on pretty well for me. Torts can be a little, well, tortuous at times, But criminal law is pretty interesting, though it doesn't make for a good career finances wise. But all this has also got me checking out stuff back home. And I've found stuff that I don't agree with.

I don't think that trials involving capital punishment should be decided by just a single judge. I personally feel that it has to be a minimum of 3 judges, with simply a majority needed for a conviction. It is someones life you're talking about here. And the case I totally disagree with is the one of the Nigerian guy at the start of the year. Based on the facts of the case, the guy did seem to be innocent. But he still got hanged for drug trafficking because the judge said that "while it seems that he didn't know, he ought to have known, therefore he is guilty". Definitely not something that I agree with there. I quite clearly feel that for such cases, 3 heads are better than 1.
