Last of 18...
I guess this will be my final entry as an eighteen-year-old...how time flies. Spent the whole year of eighteen in captivity...turning from a boy to a man. This granted, it is true. Overlooking all the glaring flaws of National Service, my 18th year on earth has been pretty exciting, with plenty of once-in-a-lifetime expercinces.
Lets see...i've passed out from BMT, thrown a grenade, fired plenty of rifles, used the M-203, went on route marches, fired a $14k Projected Line Charge, did explosives, became a fully trained field engineer, graduated from basic chemical defence training, participated in SAF day, participated in NDP, learned plenty about the harsh realities of life, learned to fend for myself, became more agressive in getting things i want, learned to calm down, learned to appreciate the value of money more, learned much about investments, learned to see things from different perspectives, learned the true meaning of friendship, learned to go clubbing, bought my first self-approved insurance policy, started investing in the stock market, learned about what i really want in life, learned much more about myself than ever before, and last but not least, really grew more mature and hopefully wiser. Man....that's plenty to do in 1 year...
Sure, there's still plenty left unsaid and plenty more to do but i guess that when i stop and think of what i've done in this past year of my life, i really have done quite alot, and have gone on a self-exploration journey, been pushed to the limits and have broken some. I've changed plenty, and yet plenty still remain the same.
Resolutions still left unmet would be....getting a girlfriend, though i'll only try to influence in that area and not go too agressively...learning to play the piano...completing basic chemistry...and not much more really...

Frankly, though tommorow is my birthday, i don't feel any different or any special. Of all my friends, it seems only Ruth has remembered, but i dun mind. Somehow i'm not the kind who'd make a fuss and throw large birthday parties, till now i'm still trying to find the one and the idea of a perfect birthday party for me would be to spend a whole day with her alone. Simple pleasures are always the best, nothing elaborate. I guess that would have to wait then. One whole day together, no frills, no presents, just me and her...bloody romantic and still far fro me...
