Hotcakes....
Hotcakes....they're going like hotcakes....fine....hotcakes dominated the week. That stupid excercise was cut from a 3days 2nights event to a 2day 1 night...not that it made the event any smarter.
The briefing was fun...with the rather blur looking 2Lt Francis conducting....he looks like some guy on tv that i've seen somewhere...whatever. CSM was rather fun too....nice for a change of the super garang Uncle Eric...good luck in bomb squad btw...
The day before was spent preparing stores and having fun at a new sport...something that required much agility, great grip, confidence, good vision and a steady climb technique. Definitely a sport that you don't get to do very often in camps....though the equipment is readily available... All those qualities were developed in one day, traversing back and forth along the plastic and metal grips, wedging inbetween impromptu footholds in the nooks and crannies available...i just never thought that climbimg around a 5-tonner could be so fun...especially with the sun burning down on you...and the binding wires flailing all around the place...just to set the camo on...yup, fun definitely...
Then came the day of the excercise itself...day 1 of excercise hotckaes...to add to the military theme of it all...i'll try to be as military as possible....doh...
DAY 0 Excercise HOTCAKES 0700Hrs Wednesday 25 August 2004
Ok....been up since like 5.30...arms drawn, field packs set, breakfast down and still holding...all that was left was the OC's briefing...as if that idiot ever said anything worth the air needed....since its some time before he makes his speech or whatever-that-is-he-does, we've all decided to well...hibernate...led by...me, but of course...
DAY 0 Excercise HOTCAKES 1100Hrs Wednesday 25 August 2004
Still no sign of briefing whatsoever...not that i mind though...still in hibernation....
DAY 0 Excercise HOTCAKES 1300Hrs Wednesday 25 August 2004
Hey...lunch wasn't that bad was it....though i don't remember what i had...i remember finishing most of it...or did i? Well...its back to hibernation yet again unless something interrupts us...
DAY 0 Excercise HOTCAKES 1930Hrs Wednesday 25 August 2004
Move out....finally...after one whole day of hibernation, i got real bored and decided to call Aloy for a chat...turns out his phone was off or something....then i messaged Ruth for a chat...bad idea...after the first reply, the second didn't come till the next day...bahz....no chemistry, the both of us....what the hell...now its just the minefield and us...the Platoon that is....
DAY 0 Excercise HOTCAKES 2000Hrs Wednesday 25 August 2004
Slept through most of the trip surprisingly....especially sonsidering the amount of hibernation already done on that day...the Sun Yan Zi song Wo Bu Nan Guo is still stuck in my head...not that i mind...but everytime i hear that song it somehow reminds me of Kelly...and i've never met her before...weird? Hey Ruth...i think you should introduce us to each other one day....haha.... Anyway...we're already on the off-road tracks of Khatib Bongsu...and the arty guns are everywhere...whirly birds are also up in the air...amd a few more tans and some made infantry rushing around and it would a perfect war scene...
DAY 0 Excercise HOTCAKES 2200Hrs Wednesday 25 August 2004
After yet another detour(its a coy curse), we finally reach our destination, but not before section-level movement in...bah...so its the mud, the grass and the mosquitos...not as attractive as the Navy's the sun, the sand and the sea, definitely...nothing the matter though, we were treated to an electrifying display of lightnining courtesy of the BBS Network....it was a little too close, so BBS excecutives, a little farther next time perhaps? I mean...when your friends also jump into the tonners gasping.."I almost died out there"...you know that the display was a little too...engaging....well the next hour was spent disccussing lightning and polarity and surviability..blah blah blah...i think if you were struck, you'd just be a very bright person for awhile, then the real dark tan sets in...nah...too dark for my liking, thanks anyway
Right...enough of the military feel crap...most of the night was spent marking and digging for the minefield...turns out our grounds were an obstacle on its own....bahz....soon however, a fog set down, giving the whole place a real errie feel...cool..no ghosts yet though...bloody dissappointing...to stem the dissappointment i had a sense of deja vu looking at the God-know's-what building in the fog...turns out i've seen it in my dreams before...my dreams have come to life many times before so it wasn't that much of a shock...but the feeling was enjoyable in a strange way...
When light finally came, most of us were flat out...or ok..sitting on the crates of mines and well...having a nice session of chess with the Sandman... i went out to collect breakfast with some others though, how kind of me, and was treated to a beautiful sunrise...what with the fog and all...beautiful cloudy skies, faboulous morning dew...misty, cool breeze...so beautiful....not that i could enjoy it in it's entierty though....
Right...so that possibly sums up the most major event in the week that i can right about...but strangely i still get a picture of Kelly in my mind when Wo Bu Nan Guo comes on the air...right Ruth...it sounds like i just broke off with her....but no i've not gone through the meeting up, going steady, holding hands, movies & dinner routine yet...maybe you wanna help make that happen? Haha...wishful thinking on my part....ball's in your court though....
